Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews has blamed the Prime Minister's
opinion poll plunge on what he says is a misleading campaign by unions
against the Government's proposed industrial relations changes.
From George Orwell's classic novel 'Nineteen Eighty-Four':
'As usual, the face of Emmanuel Goldstein, the Enemy of the People, had

Treasurer Peter Costello says he is not worried about the polls.
"Obviously industrial relations is going to be a big argument and I wouldn't
underestimate the difficulties of explaining this argument.
"It's always easier to sell a negative than a positive and the union
movement's been out of the blocks fast on the negative."
George Orwell explains one way of promoting a positive:
"Attention! Your attention please! A newsflash has this moment arrived
from the Malabar front. Our forces in India have won a glorious victory.
The action may bring the war within measureable distance of its end"
Bad news coming, thought Winston. And sure enough, following a description
of the annihilation of a Eurasian army, came the announcement that, as from
next week, the chocolate ration would be reduced from thirty grammes to
twenty.
