I just bought an LG 52" DLP RPTV and HDD/DVD recorder from Clive
Anthony for $2580 plus another $100 off with the cash back offer.
Great looking TV but it suffers from Rainbow effect. I get the effect
nearly all the time. The store replaced the set ASAP, with an
identical model. This one has a lot less rainbow effect, but it is not
totally gone. Evident on Sky captain, Planet of the Apes, Raiders of
the Lost Ark.
Running Progressive scan, component cables, also tried DVD on xbox and
Pioneer 344 both on S-VHS connections, no difference to rainbow.
I have extensively tested this model at Harvey Norman, JB HiFi and
Clive Anthony with several DVD's that NEVER EVER showed a bit of
rainbow, get it home and bang, plenty of rainbow.
I researched this model (52SZ8R-TB) a bit, there are no in depth
reviews out there for it, I have used DVD essentials to calibrate
colours/ contrast, they are excellent, geometry is also excellent. Both
sets I have received have virtually identical geometry and colour
characteristics.
It appears that this effect varies greatly from set to set let alone
brands. Every one who has seen the TV at home has observed the rainbow
(5 people plus me).
Is there any service adjustment to minimise the rainbow effect ?
Is there anything I can do to minimise the rainbow, eg. lighting ?
This is a great TV at a very good price, I think I could live with it
for the $$. Plasma and LCD are not for me, as I play xbox etc and do
not want to be worried about burn in or dead pixels, pixel fill rate.
