We all know that 2008 is pie in the sky, but it will happen eventually. This
will free up channels 7,9 & 10 for new digital services (which the current
commercials will argue that they should have).

What's going to happen to channel 2? It will have to be left out in the cold
because all the technology ('digital' antennas, tuners, etc) start at
channel 6 & go through to 69 (UHF). 3 & 4 encroach on the FM band, so
they'll go to radio (Newcastle & Wollongong are the 2 examples I can think
of - apologies if I've forgotten anywhere). Is channel 1 used anywhere? I
remember being in Brisbane in 1988 when TV0 was changing to Channel 10. Is
channel 0 still used anywhere?

Basically, does anyone know what's happening with VHF band 1 post analogue
transmissions?

Thanks,

Justin

Some of channels are already reserved for other equipment. e.g. an AV
adaptor I use here makes use of either channel 0 or 1 to deliver AV
signals to my small TV (which doesn't possess AV connectors). It should
be noted some of the lower UHF channels are also reserved for various
purposes other than TV, despite being available to tuners.
Beyond that it's the lap of the self made gods (read: Federal
politicians).
There was talk of reusing the freed up bandwidth for other
applications; if the recent test of digital TV streams for mobile
phones works, I'd suggest they'll end up going to kids with too much
money watching Big Bother on their mobiles (or something useless like
that).

Hmm, you don't live behind me do you? I've got someone nearby that uses a
low VHF sender that interferes with my Optus rf output (channel 0). Won't be
a problem after Wednesday (going to Foxtel).
