View Full Version : "No Signal" Problem with LG5100 HD Set Top Box ? ( Newcastle Area )

Hi, I Bought a LG 5100 HD Set Top Box from "The Good Guys" yesterday.
I already had a SD Set Top Box working Fine, so I brought the LG HD Unit
home & Just unplugged the SD Set Top Box - Then replugged in the LG HD Set
Top Box.
When I switched it on - It came up saying "No Signal"
So I rang The Good Guys - they said to bring it back.
They plugged it in at their shop ( which is only about 2 minutes from my
Home ) and it still showed "No Signal"
They then opened another one - and it toooo showed "No Signal".
They then said they weren't prepared to continue opening new units - so
Offered me a replacement or Refund. I took the Refund.
I have emailed LG.
I'm in the Maitland area.

Why weren't they prepared to continue opening new units?
They get one that works, good that's yours, if it doesn't then they would
have to send it back to the manufacturer/distributor anyway, so it doesn't
matter if it's been opened.
Their whole shipment may be faulty, if so they may have 50 or more in stock,
so that's another 50 poor shmucks who are going to be inconvenienced.
If it doesn't work they're still going to have to take it back & send it
back to the distributor.
No.1 rule in that type of business, if you have more than 1 faulty item in a
shipment, check all items of that line (make/model) it could be a bad batch
got through. Don't inconvenience the customer, it doesn't make you look good
& doesn't help the manufacture (gives both a bad name), & the customer may
not come back.
As in your case, you took the refund because you didn't want to get the
replacement, take it home, only to find it was faulty too, then you'd have
to take it back to the shop & go all through this again. Also most customers
wouldn't live 2 minutes from the shop & may not have time to run around
taking things back, hoping to get one that works.

You were unable to Scan - as it was saying "No Signal"
So as far as the unit was concerned - there was nothing to Scan.

Perhaps neither you nor the sales person knew how to correctly operate the
unit?
