Isn't that what a PVR is?

No

A Personal Video Recorder and a Hard Disk Recorder are two different
things.

What's the difference between a PVR and a STB with inbuilt hard drive
recorder?

Nothing i dont think. I think he is distinguishing between a PVR(which is a
stb with hdd built in), and a hdd/dvd recorder that can take analogue
inputs. At least thats what i think the discussion is about??

Yes. The statement was that digital set top boxes with hard drives aren't
PVR's. They are. Analogue tuners with hard disk recorders aren't.

I didn't say that

A PVR can contain a Digital STB with a built-in hard drive

But if that's all it is, it isn't a PVR

I see, unless it has one of 142 different kinds of ports?

Complete and utter drivel.

If a box can tune into some kind of TV, and can record that signal to an
internal hard disk, and can play it back, then it's a PVR.

Its PVR-ness is not predicated on how much it cost.

I submit that the concept of "personalisation", and pretty much the rest of
your arguments are meaningless dreck that you seem to have extracted from
one of your own personal "ports".

Oh, and since your interpretation of written English seems to suffer in the
absence of one of those emoticon things, I shall gift you with one such that
you might be able to use it as a substitute for having a clue. Enjoy :)

You mean they aren't personal, or don't record video?
