I have been experiencing what I perceive as severe RBE on my new LG 52" DLP RPTV.
The set had been replaced three times and it was still exhibiting it, mainly on DVD material, both PAL & NTSC (via the LG DVD recorder) and also on HD TV mainly chan 10 HD.

I think I worked out what is happening. I rebooted my modified XBOX into pure NTSC mode (Even PAL material is converted to NTSC (Not just PAL60)) I am using component cables for the XBOX. NTSC Kernel switched on and progressive modes enabled.

PRESTO!! All RBE is now gone, including movies such as Gladiator.
It seems that the frequency change from PAL 50 to NTSC 60 is enough to make the RBE transparent to my eyes.

I tried this on my Pioneer 344 using R1 version of Gladiator and the player set to output an NTSC signal only, it also worked. I tried a PAL DVD, but the player reverted to PAL signal, even though I set the player to NTSC. As soon as the image goes to PAL, I get the RBE.

The LG DVD Recorder I got for free automatically converts NTSC to PAL, so this now makes it a boat anchor as far was watching movies goes.

The big question, is there any DVD player out there at the moment, that can convert a PAL image to an NTSC image ? Or am I stuck using the XBOX in NTSC mode for a little longer ?

RBE is still there for me on HD TV, but I didn't buy this to watch TV anyhow, all I care about is DVD playback.

Typical LG ,fundemental technical flaws allied to poor build quality and qc
, get rid of it b4 the real problems start.

I would tend to agree. If the unit can;t play a format that is native
to this country then you should get your money back, or at least another
brand.

As to the comment of the quality of LG, I have never owned anyhting made
by them so I cant comment from experience, only that I have heard many
people say similar things

SCREW this DLP SET.
Just arranged for a store credit of the purchase price.

If you were going to persist, I was going to suggest the AR1822 from Jaycar.
The output can be manually set to either NTSC or PAL (& converts the
incoming signal to whichever you choose).
