Does anyone know how to update codecs on an XBox?

I think my machine needs the new xVid and the h236 codec.

If you are watching avi's on your xbox one would assume it has been modded, so its just a matter of updating what ever software is running on it.

That's the thing, how do i update the software...do i just run the exe and overwrite the old codecs or is there some kind of uninstaller do get rid of the old codecs first?

I generally just FTP into the box and copy the files over, overwrite as neccessary and away you go.

I'm new at all this so i don't want to overwrite any important files, does it matter which folder i use for the codecs?

You are not overwriting the codecs as such, just copy over the newer version of whichever application you want to update. Needs to go in the same directory as the current version, if you are unsure just copy the existing one first to your PC and then overwrite, that way if any problems you can always put the old version back on. Check out www.xbox-scene.com for lots of info if you get stuck, heaps of how-to guides available there.
