View Full Version : Odd noise from front of EL

Hi All,
My EL falcon has a horrible noise coming from the front end whenever
I go over bumps. The best way I can describe it is it sounds like thick
plastic being bent back and forth if I go over a dip in the road, a
carpark speed bump, or turn into a drive way. If I press down on the
front corners of the car, I can hear the noise but it only sounds like a
little squeak, inside the car it sounds far worse. It seems to be far
worse on cold mornings.
The noise started a few months back and I had my mechanic look at it
last service, he said that he could hear the noise but there didn't
appear to be anything wrong with the steering or suspension, and to
bring it in if it gets worse. Well it has got worse and I have the car
booked in at a local steering and suspension place on Tuesday to check
it out.
Just wondering if anyone may know what may be causing this noise?
TIA.

spray a bit of crc or something on the inner stabiliser bar bushes and see
if it goes away. most likely that is where your noise is coming from. if it
is the noise will probably come back even if greased. best bet is to fit new
ones (nolathane are better than the originals)

Take the Ford badges off and it'll go away.

Nah, it'll stay a ford.
Unlike with a commodore, where upon removal of the holden label it will
suddenly "morph" into an opel.

And turn into a car with twice the build quality.
No such hope for the Ford ;-)

Could be a pedestrian stuck under your car. Every time you hit a bump he screams! ;-)

I hate it when they do that! I had a roo disappear under the front of my car
once, and while i was sitting there wondering what to do about it, he
scrabbled his way out again, glared at me and flogged off never to be seen
again.

Thanks for that. Is replacing the bushes likely to be pricey?

Can't remember exactly but not much $.
Could it be a mud flap hitting the road? I had a torn mud flap that
hung down lower than it should. Every time I hit a substantial bump, it
sounded like I had a tyre scraping the wheel arch. But it was just the
mud flap.
