Have had some interesting discussions recently on the subject of seatbelt
wearing and taxis...
Apparently NSW still exempt taxi drivers from wearing seatbelts. AFAIK,
every other state and territory has removed that exemption. (?)
So, an AU Falcon (with SRS airbags) gets used as a taxi. Ford are
adament that the wearing of the seatbelt is mandatory. The NSW state gov
say that the taxi drivers don't have to wear seatbelts. Which one do you
think takes precedence?

The state of infrastructure in New South Wales is a disgrace.
I'm a Libran Engineer. I don't argue, I discuss.

Natural selection will again take its place.
If the taxi driver refuses to wear a seatbelt, he's gonna end up halfway
through the windscreen before the airbag's deployed, which will throw him
back into his seat and cause major internal injuries.
If he lives, he'll wear a seatbelt next time. If he doesn't, one less idiot
on the road.
Morbid, sure, but cars are only designed to protect you if you use them as
the manufacturer intended. You use a car with sixteen airbags and multiple
seatbelt pretensioners, you are fairly protected in a frontal impact... Lose
the seatbelt, and the airbags are still going to deploy as if the tensioners
had locked you in the seat where you were safest. Explosives going off 3
inches or less from your chest are going to cause some damage.

I guess the idea of not being able to breathe when a wanker wraps a seat
belt around your throat motivates most taxi drivers not to wear a belt...
