According to a caller to a Sydney radio station today, Foxtel have stopped doing any repairs on analogue
installations. The customer must either upgrade to digital or lose their pay TV.

To be expected I suppose.

Sounds fair. People have known for over a year that it is going. Time to
upgrade people.

Sounds like blackmail.
Do they give the upgrade for free in lieu of the repair

The caller mentioned cable. Wouldn't surprise me if it is both.

I believe not. It is a good thing that I upgraded late last year when they were offering free installation.

Analogue subscribers have been given more than enough chance to upgrade
for free.. and it's only $19.95 atm.
Analogue subscribers have to release their service is no longer
supported by Foxtel, and they either have to upgrade or discontinue service.

Well Foxtel will have to waive any cancellation fees if the person is
still under contract and also refund any analogue installation fee
that the subscriber paid (even if it was back in 1997)

I can understand cable not being supprted but that doesn't mean satellite
isn't being repaired.

It's been well documented in this forum that FOXTEL have been offering
Digital Installations to existing ANALOGUE customers on NO CONTRACT.
Plus they are regularly offering free installation...what do you want
exactly, FOXTEL to pay your subscription costs aswell???
Enough excuses, upgrade or disconnect!

But the thing is they don't. They only do that if you threaten legal
action.

I'm sure people in this forum said they randomly received printed
material from FOXTEL advertising no contract upgrades... but I could be
wrong? (Afterall I'm on digital).
At the end of the day I don't understand all this resistance to
upgrading to digital...what's the issue peeps??

Only to those who have been with them for some time such that they have
already been off contract for several years. I was in that situation so
converted with no contract.
But if I had only signed up say six month before digital was released I
would not be in that situation and Foxtel would want to put me on a new
contract.

Let me explain this to you in simple letters.
They sent me a letter a month ago saying I could get Foxtel Digital with noi
contract but it would cost me $120.
How much clearer can I be?

The only digital channel I ever watch is VH1 and the occasional time
shift program
Most of the channels I don't watch. All of these people posting might
not be with Foxtel, so some of the digital channels could be in their
analogue catalogue of channels. I know VH1 is on Optus and they aren't
digital.

VH1 is currently being shown on analogue cable on ch.53
