hi,
bought a dv-383 lately and need help here.
My anime screen aspect is 4:3. When I tried to play the disc in default setting, i was unable to see the top and the bottom of the anime. That means most of my subtitle is blocked or being cut. Then I tried setting the display mode to 16:9 I was just able to see half of the subtitle and the image being squeeze slighty.
What should i do?? I could watch it nicely using my PC.
another thing is my player can't play Xvid encoded .avi files in 16:9 format (768x432).
What can i do?? When i tried playing the mentioned files, the Pioneer logo is there with sound only.
Thanks a lot.

Sounds more like encoder settings rather than xvid, use gspot to determine how the file has been compressed then someone here can offer advise that is going to be of value to you.
Most hardware players have this problem (on CRT screens in particular) due to the fact that CRT screens overscan anywhere up to 10%, and the people who make the anime encodes do not account for this.
Do a search on 'anime' and 'overscan' and you will find a lot of posts on this subject I'm afraid.

so nothing can be done??
What if i'm using a LCD(widescreen) TV??
Your player can't play it, as nearly all players only play files at a maximum resolution the same as a DVD (720x576). This is why you get no picture. (768 is to wide)
If you have an LCD screen, there may be an overscan setting in the screens menu.

What if i'm using a LCD(widescreen) TV??I've noticed my LCD TV (Sharp Aquos) has very little overscan, so with the LG8900P subtitles that are cut off on a 4:3 CRT TV display nicely on a 16:9 LCD TV.

So my problem (overscanning) lies more on the TV rather than the player itself, rite??
Pretty much.
It would be nice if the players had settings to compensate for this, but the only player that can/will do this that I am aware of is the new Zensonic Z500 due out later this year. http://www.z500series.com
