The Deadly Attachment
Face to face with the enemy at last! The platoon , detailed to guard a captive U-boat crew, rise to the occasion with all the competence and courage we've come to expect from the Home Guard.

Keep Young and Beautiful
Concern about the condition of some of the "older" members of the Home Guard, precipitates a frenzy of "rejuvenating" activities.

Never Too Old
At first everyone assumes that old age lies behind Jones' increasing woolly-headedness. But nothing could be further from the truth - it's all because he's fallen in love.

Asleep in the Deep
When a bomb falls on the local plumbing station, efforts to rescue Privates Walker and Godfrey result in the exact opposite - nearly the whole platoon are now trapped with them.

Sons of the Sea
Captian Mainwaring has an idea: "River patrols! Half a dozen men, armed to the teeth with a boat. They could play havoc with the Nazis."

AUDIO/VISUAL

The Best Of Dad's Army has a pretty basic Dolby Digital audio track and I doubt that viewers will be expecting much from it anyway due to the vintage of this show.
Well, yeah it's pretty simple and there's no need for rears and a sub when watching these episodes, but the overall audio surprisingly comes through very loud and clear and easy to understand. There's no problems with audio sync that I could see.

Like the audio, I don't think people will be expecting great things from the video transfer due to the age of this show. Well to my surprise, the video looks pretty darn good for an old classic such as this one.
We get a mostly clear and very sharp image that shows off a lot of detail. The picture is shown in full screen.
The picture is mostly clean and free from any blemishes and the only marks I really noticed were the very fine white vertical lines that would only occasionally pop up on screen for a second (towards the end of the first episode for instance). I have to admit that I was looking for stuff like this and I seriously doubt it will bother many people when watching these wonderful episodes.
Colours include various shades of khaki, browns and blacks but regardless of what colour is on display, they all have a natural look to them as do flesh tones.

OVERALL

It's great to see these classic British comedy series making their way to DVD and I really can't recommend this DVD enough to anyone who has enjoyed this wonderful show over the years.
I grew up watching shows like this and It Ain't Half Hot Mum and to be able to sit back and watch these episodes again has been great!
Fortunately, the audio/visual side of things are of a good enough quality that shouldn't disappoint.
The extra features are a bit light, but are still a nice touch to an already enjoyable DVD.
The Best Of Dad's Army is out now and has a RRP of $29.95.
