hi,
Im using windows media 10.0, itz good no question about that. But just many times there are files that I cannot play. WinMedia keeps showing that a message like a codec is required and winmedia dont have it.
I searched on google and found K lite codec pack. Downloaded it, then I can watch the movies but it seems loading the file takes a bit longer and slower
is K lite good? should i remove it and try something different?
thanks much

Most of the codec packs install 10 tonnes of stuff, 90% of which you're unlikely to ever use. This is probably one of the reasons you feel the video file is taking longer to load up than it should - Windows is most likely creaking under the load of all the extra codecs that have been installed.

A good solution is to use a program like GSPOT whenever you come across a file that your media player won't play. It will tell you what the required codec type is, then you can Google yourself up a copy of what you need. This way you'll be able to keep your system as lean as possible.

Codec packs are not good...

You usually only need a few codecs

ac3filter - for dolby ac3 surround sound
oggcodec - for ogg-vorbis compressed audio
xvid - for divx and xvid mpeg4 files
ffdshow - covers a multitude of sins..

There may be one or to others but that would be for less common formats

www.free-codecs.com is the best place to retrieve any required codecs

note: with xvid u can get either koepi's or nic's build. I find nic's a little better if you are doing any encoding.

As Davidf said.

Also download VLC player. It can play most files without using any extra codec.
