Hi guys

Got a prick of a problem.

Normally when i have divx or xvid files that have sync issues when played on my Zensonic, i fiddle around around with interleaving in virtualdub till i get itright. (The files dont have sync issues on PC while FFDshow is running)

Ive got quite a few stubborn ones that come in and out of sync after resaving in vdub with a certain gap done at every 1 frame, so vdub is out of the equation.

So I say screw it and im gonna make a dvd out of the files i have using WinAVI video converter, so i make it but the problem is the dvd i made now has a sync issue.

Is there something i can do with ffdshow to tell it when i am making a dvd in winavi to factor in whatever it is does when it plays back the files on my pc ?

I know I'm reaching but i had to ask for curiosity's sake.

Cheers

Is the avi 24/25/29 fps because this makes a difference when creating your video I.e. if its ntsc based avi and you create a pal dvd you are going to issues.

I have found that avimux does a few things that vdub can't and often sync issues get resolved here is a few ways

in avimux there is an opendml option unchecking it helps reduce sync problems. Also if you tell it to leave vbr and cbr audio alone it will change its behaviour when remuxing the avi.

One other hint with avimux when an avi is loaded a secondary box showing all audio streams allows you to double click on any audio stream to see if there are any sync offsets required.

[edit] almost forgot run the avi thru mpeg4modifier first as it will fix any frame problems that could be the cuase of erroneous sync issues.

nah i put it on auto for everything in winavi so the ntsc /pal is a non issue but I will try all your other suggestions tonight david - thanks for the tips

just on mpeg4modifier you mean just open and resave it regardless of whether it has packed bitsream or not right?

will post here to let you and others with similar problems know how i went.

davidf: I got it working last night and I owe my thanks to you. cheers mate.

For those interested, I tried out many options and saved many different files.

Here are the results.

Mpeg4modifier simple resave: After resaving tried on Zensonic 300 - no change.
AVIMUX with DML : No change and file stops playing after 5 seconds.
AVIMUX with no DML: No change but file doesnt stop after 5 seconds.
AVIMUX with no DML and audio delay input based on info in app: Success! Plays correctly synchd and doesnt stop.

But wait theres more...

I normally use Winamp on the PC because of the choice of skins and using the cursors to fast forward and dont really like BS player, the problem is they wont start playing. GRRRRR!

I open the files in Windows Media Player (standard and Classic) and they play fine --- WHAT THE!!!! Anyways so I queue up all my files in Nandub for a direct stream resave and then they work again in Winamp. WEIRD!
Anyone know why this happenned ?

Anyhoo, thanks again david, i couldnt have done it without you. AVIMux is now my new goto for sync problems :)

Yes avimux is a great tool it will be better in the next version when it also adds support for mp2. I'm glad all worked for you now if I could just get the avimux scripting to work my a/v collection of prefered tools of would be perfect.
