High Defination Setop Recorders. Need some recomendations.
Iam looking to get a HD recoder. But i have NO idea what is a good I
only have componet connections. I would like to record in full 1080
Resolution 1920 by 1080.
It would be nice if i could upgrade to Hard disc of the recorder as
well. And also be able to connect it to my PC via atleast USb 2.0 if
possible so i can remove the recorded video and reencode it to
something smaller :)
Thanks for any help in picking one.
Ps/ Iam in Australia.

You are a little ahead of yourself.
There are no High Def recorders available at the moment.
The Topfield has been promising one since this time last year but so far its
NOT available.
Has all the features you ask for.

I am using the Toshiba HDD-J35 HD HDD Recorder. It certainly does record in
full HD (2 channels at the same time).
Has been a little buggy, but a firmware update has fixed that. Pretty good
piece of kit. Can pickup for around $1300 or more if you shop around.
Check out this link.

Well that's gonna be hard since apart from Nine Perth & Brisbane (who do
transmit at 1920x1080), all other 1080i services broadcast at 1440x1080.
;)

And not only that. 90% of what is transmitted on all HD channels is
merely upconverted from the SD channel anyhow. So it is no different.

And the Government may drop HD requirement entirely with their media
reforms.
Is there a timeframe on the reforms?

It also looks like the channels aren't fulfilling their 40 hours+ per week
of HD material either.
