Grabbed one of these yesterday.
Like the 5.1 optical and component fittings at the price, however, not
keen on the menu system, can't (apparently) put in SBS as SBS or 28,
looks as if you're stuck with their set number, very slow to store
channels as favourites, exit button seems to not work sometimes or it's
painfully slow and is it seriously necessary to have
colour/brightness/contrat/volume controls when you would assume that
most TV's and amps/receivers have these nowaday? 8-)
Thoughts on ths?
BTW, $170 at JB's in Parramatta.

Personally I think it's good to have separate picture controls in the STB
because you can get it to put out a similar picture to your DVD player. It would
be a pain to have to turn brightness up when using the STB and down again when
using the DVD player.

And if your player/recorder has the same things? 8-)

I hope that DGTEC have upgraded their game with their new
range of products. The first range of products they brought
out were widely known as lemons.
I guess for $170 it is not going to hurt if you have to
dump it for something that functions better. I paid
considerably more for something dysfunctional.

Mine still work fine, but the remote sensor has never been very responsive,
unlike the rest of my equipment.

I have DGTEC 2000A HD tuner - heap of overpriced garbage. Hopelessly slow
to respond to remote, crummy dysfunctional skinny menus, changes stations
without warning, pathetic on screen information. Read the forums, these
complaints are all to common. My advice is - don't touch this brand.
I bought an el cheapo SD tuner from Bing Lee for $129 and it makes the DGTEC
look even sicker. Responds immediately to the remote, comprehensive menus,
more options, easier setup, does not have all the outlets or 5.1 Dolby, but
it has scart output which goes to scart input on Tevion LCD screen, so
picture is great, and only one quarter the price.

D GTECH = DODGY BOX. One of the worst set top boxes i have installed that is very sensitive to correct antenna placement. I steer all my customers away from these box's.

I purchased the DGTEC DG-A1301 as well, admittedly for $170 (Bing Lee) I didn't have high expectations but couldn't bring myself to spend more than $600 for the Sony HD unit. It was a bit fiddly to set up but the difficulty in using the remote makes it a terrible experience, you have to be pointing exactly at it or slightly below in my instance, or it does nothing. Sometimes when you are pointing correctly it ignores you anyway and if you press too fast or too slow it does the same. Between that and the fact that you can't assign the channel numbers and are stuck wherever it puts them, I have to say a terrible disappointment all around. The picture output seems fine but just degrades from the whole experience, I think this one will be ditched soon in favour of the Sony (just to match up to the TV and DVD).
