Doesn anyone have any details on the new range of plans Optus are releasing
on August 8?
Supposed to have a bunch of cheap(er) voice and SMS plans.......

The focus of all carriers is on upping yield. This is done by raising
per-minute rates, often heavily, especially for overseas calls. Optus, as
number 2, is hardly going to rock the boat - too much to lose.

Carrier advertising, of course, highlights the so-called "caps" - which are
not, as the term suggests, a maximum cost per month but merely a pause in
the call cost build while the customer recovers some of the call value that
has been lost to the higher per-minute rates that have been introduced in
the past year.

None of the mainstream carriers advertises call rates these days. A dark
secret that they don't want you to find out about until after you're locked
in and receiving bills.

What a load of rubbish. All carriers are very upfront in what you pay per
minute
