THE BEST OF THE TWO RONNIES
A tribute to a legendary duo from the golden age in television variety.
From 1971 to 1987, and over the course of twelve series and eight specials, The Two Ronnies was one of the nation's favourite television comedy shows. The show was practically an institution, with the Christmas and Easter holidays only really being complete for most families, with a Two Ronnies special. This compilation features favourite sketches from sixteen years of the much-loved and much-missed programme, including:
The Vagabond Lover (Before he died of drink, women and horses)
Swedish Made Simple
Mastermind (answering the questions before last) and
The St Botolph's Country Dance Team

AUDIO/VISUAL

The Best Of The Two Ronnies contains a simple Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track.
All the audio obviously comes from the front of the room and understandably, there is no rear or sub activity.
The quality of the speech is an important factor on a title such as this and thankfully, there didn't seem to be any problems understanding what was being said during any of their sketches. Audio sync was also problem free.
The video transfer is also pretty basic, but acceptable and shouldn't disappoint most viewers.
The clips vary in quality slightly due to the age of the various segments used.
There aren't too many marks or blemishes to worry about and very fine grain does show at times, but is also nothing to really be concerned about. There can be a bit of slight shimmering on some edges and items containing fine lines (such as clothing), but nothing really drastic.
The picture is pretty sharp and clear and colours are mostly fine in appearance considering what is on offer due to the age of the segments being used.
Blacks and flesh tones could be described in the same manner.

Artist profiles -

OVERALL

This DVD contains plenty of laughs and why wouldn't it with a selection of segments from two of the best in British comedy. Some of the gags show their age, but are still able to give us a bit of a chuckle.
The audio/visuals on this DVD aren't exactly breathtaking, but are more than acceptable when taking in account the source and vintage of the material provided.
Real fans of this pair should have this DVD by now and if not, they should be seriously looking for a spare $29.95 to grab their own copy to own.
The Best Of The Two Ronnies is out now and has a RRP of $29.95
