i drive a 91 XR8........im finding the fuel consumption is more than i spend
on food each week. I was thinking about getting into a turbo'd 4 cycl car, i
mean i love the power of my 8....but i also want to be able to save fuel by
driving gently. so my question is :

if u drive a turbo'd 4cyl car really gently, will it be quite economical
like a normal 4 ?

im thinking of 90's models cars like mazdas and silvias

My ride has a 2.0 litre turbo engine. On the freeway and under light
throttle cruise I regularly see under 6.0 litres/100km for miles on end.
When on full boost overtaking or climbing a grade the instantaneous
consumption readout is alarming. However the overall consumption average
according to the trip computer is only 8.4l/100km. For a car that can
produce 260Nm torque at 3000RPM it is quite economical and loads of fun.

It's also a function of the size/weight of the car not just the
engine capacity.

If you want a 'similar' sized car with a turbo 4 cylinder engine, don't
expect much difference in fuel consumption around town. Freeway
may be a little better with light throttle cruising. You really need to
take each vehicle on it's merits.

I have a 2.5l turbo-charged 4 cylinder, and for my
driving (every red light is a drag strip) my best fuel consumption
is 10.74l/100k (50% Freeway) worst 14.47l/100k (with no
freeway driving)
(300Nm @ 3000rpm, 320Nm @ 3600rmp(max))
