Optus Post-Office Bill Charge

With all the who-ha about Telstra's Credit Card Payment Processing Fee
(PPF),

I notice Optus have been charging for all bill payments at all Australia
Post outlets from 1 July 2005.
A fee of 55c.

Yet not mentioned in here? Just confirms people prefer to bash Telstra.

The Optus charge is just a reflection of the AusPost charge.

charge

But it was "wrong" for Telstra to do it, but right for Optus?

You misunderstand. Some people in this NG have a chip on their shoulder (or
some "back injury" [lol]) related to Telstra so they shoot it down at every
opportunity, while giving their money to overseas interests. It's called the
"my personal belief overrides any actual fact" routine - practised by Rod
Speed for one..

Telstra's reach (no, not the dodgy JV) meant that its decision to "improve
transaction fee transparency" impacted on payment options for most of the
country. Counting the 10m Telstra PSTN lines alone bears this out.

Plus, compare the volume of Telstra customers that pay by credit card,
versus the volume of Optus customers that pay at the post office.

Consequently, the press had nothing to say about this fee, whereas the media
decided to pick up on the Telstra credit card fees.

A couple of points:

(1) MANY companies charge for payments made at Australia Post offices. (It
beats me why people would pay at the post office - why stand in the AusPost
queue and then put up with the un-motivated public service attitude when you
reach the counter? There are normally plenty of other payment options.)

(2) Optus does not charge for BPAY via direct debit or credit card. Most
other companies don't either but Telstra does for CC payments.

Telstra doesnt offer BPAY via Credit Card.
