Hi all,
I have had my blue 253 put on gas (its nice filling up for $15 :-) and
I would love to know what static advance I should run.
It is a duel fuel system but I have an ignition system where I can
switch between two sets of timing etc.
I also have a brand new Crow Cam #5631 sitting in my shed ready for
installation next week.
So, whats the best static advance for LPG?
Thanks,
Brett M.
PS - It idles at ~450 rpm on LPG, any advice on speeding it up without
affecting petrol too much? Will the advance take care of this if it is
around 14 deg?

Lpg generally requires the same static and total advance as petrol. The main
difference being that it likes it's advance curve to be considerably sharper
than what petrol does, and to achieve that you need to have the distributor
regraphed. The problem being that as soon as you do this, the petrol side
becomes useless.
As a work around, dual curve ignition modules are available for some cars,
and they alter the timing to suit the fuel that you're using. They generally
only work with electronic ignition, and mostly exist for American ignition
systems, but there might be a way you could adapt one to suit your
application.

Whatever idle setting you have the carb set at for petrol should be fine for
lpg, but if it's low you might want to try adjusting the idle mixture screw
on the gas converter.

Go straight LPG .. you can make a very nice LPG engine with some tuning ..
if you're already doing engine mods such as the cam, drop the fuel side of
things completely, and just tune it for gas ..
Can get a VERY nice running engine when tuned for gas alone .. the
compromises only come when you try to tune for best of both worlds, coz
generally, you only get a part of each world ..

Generally I've noticed they like a little more initial and a bit less
total. Now if you dialled in more intial, you'd also (by default since
the total advance is whatever you set the intial at plus the
mech/centrifugal advance) be adding more total.
The only way around this is to recurve the dizzy to suit the fuel you
run on the most.
Short of that, I personally would advise against running more intial.
