View Full Version : Are Nokia DKU-2 and DKU-5 cables identical?

Dear All,

I recently purchased a USB data cable for my Nokia 6610. The
salesperson said a Nokia brand DKU-2 would suit my model. When I got it
home and tried to install the correct cable driver and PC Suite from
the Nokia site (installed in the correct order as suggested), it didn't
seem to work. When looking for further info about what the problem
might have been, I found the following compatibility chart on the Nokia
site:

http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,34250,00.html#dku2

According to this, the DKU-5 is the cable I should be using, not the
DKU-2. But when I returned the cable, the salesperson insisted that the
DKU-2 was exactly the same cable as the DKU-5, just without the bundled
CDs with the drivers and PC Suite.

Before I try returning this cable again (or try further to get it
working), can anyone confirm whether these two cables are identical and
either should work with my phone?

Thanks in advance.

They are definetly NOT the same cable.

You will find some use the DKU-2 and some phones use the DKU-5. If
they were the same, nokia wouldnt recommend one for some phones, and
one for the other.

Compatability chart here

Try asking the salesman why the ywo cables need different drivers, if
they are the same.

I would get my money back and shop elsewhere, as he hasnt got a clue.

Buy the DKU-2 on ebay - can get them for $12 delivered with CD. I am waiting
for mine to arrive later this week.

And even then you're playing the odds that it'll work. We got one from a
"power seller" off Ebay. We could not get it to work on 4 different PCs,
all running different versions of Windows from Win98SE to XP Home to XP
Pro. The phone was either a 6210 or a 2280 or a 6230, all of which were
supposedly compatible with this particular cable.

The local Telstra shop has the geniune DKU cables for about $50, which
includes software.

Even then, it's not really worth it. The software, I thought, was pretty
basic in function, and I had difficulty in getting it to do what I
wanted - edit, add, delete, backup, restore phone book entries. The main
feature, to import an address book from my Palm Desktop software was not
available. Nor could I import delimited files, which the Palm DT can
export to.
