TIA

Personal policy, I don't buy them.

Easily. Got onto the main road near my place on the phone once before it cut
out, only then realised it wasn't my mobile. Would've been 200-250m, inside
car, no line of sight.
Doro dect somethin-or-other.

Dunno about the Doro DECTs, but I purchased some Oricom DECTs about 10
months ago.
Set up came with a base unit (tapeless answering machine and recharge unit
for one of the handsets), three handsets for $155 for the lot.
Handsets 2 and 3 come with their own recharger bases.
All handsets use standard AAA NiMH rechargeables, so when they finally won't
hold a reasonable charge they can be replaced with cheap rechargeables that
are readily available from most supermarkets and electronics retailers (e.g.
Jaycar, Altronics etc) for a few dollars a piece. Much more sensible idea
than most costly specific battery packs used by most other brands of DECT
phones.
Other features are CLD in all handsets, reasonable phone book memory,
ability to call between handsets, conferencing, remote monitoring, remote
message retrieval, speaker phone, socket for headset etc, etc....
Manufacturer claims a range up to 300m. I've never tested the actual range
it will go, but it works at least 4 doors up from me through double brick
walls on a building with a zincalume roof. :) Voice quality is very good.
Details at http://www.oricom.com.au/pr_cordless_m140-2.php
Just one of the many they market.
Cheers,
Alan

**Thanks for the info. I had another brand of dect 'phone, but handpieces
crapped out. I had to return to my ancient, but reliable, Panasonic non-dect
'phone. I like the dect system. It works well and I like the idea of the
wireless intercom. My Pana 'phone had MUCH better range than my dect 'phone
though. ANything more than 50 Metres is a bonus.

Doro phones were on NGE or Choice due to the company not fufilling the
warranty, something to do with the buttons wearing out and it being due to
normal wear and tear..was at least 2 years ago now but the models were the
5035 and 5045 (i had one and while they worked okay the buttons did wear
out)..I would steer clear of the older models if they are still around

**Yep. I've pretty much decided on a Panasonic 'phone. A bit more expensive,
but all my previous Pana 'phones have been excellent. DSE has an excellent
deal on a 3 'phone Pana dect, 5.8GHz system. I've short listed this model.
