hello everybody, i am curious if anybody outhere knows a better
way of finding device drivers on the web. most of the driver sites
i have tried are a mess (driver.com,ect.).
at the moment i have a Cirrus logic modem cl-md2614
but no driver for it. i have tried most of all those driver download sites with no success. isn't there a service or better way of
finding a driver without feeling that your the only person i the world with this modem. :(
thanks everyone, take care.

This is all i can find on the actual modem, one chip on the
inside says exactly CL-MD2614-20QC-E-60527-626DF-9545
N USA-H. also on the outside of the card the circuit side
it it has a sticker that says model CL-1414HVF.
there is also a large yellow sticker on the circuit side that says
5201430196-033-112964 but i am not sure if that is relevant.
see what i mean they don't make it easy for one to find
a lost driver.
thank you for all your help.

Well, you picked the very toughest company I know to find driver "support", especially the older stuff.

Some things that might help (Google search using "cirrus modem" without the quotes):

http://www.56k.com/trouble/noname.shtml
http://www.cirrus.com/drivers/index.cfm
http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/support/drivers.htm
http://www.modem-drivers.com/
http://www.modem-drivers.com/companies/216.htm

Ambient bought CL modem business, Intel bought Ambient.

Based on apparent CL numbering scheme (MD34xx = 33.6 kbps, MD56xx = 56 kbps - suggest you look very closely at that model number - could that 2614 be 5614?

Beyond this, the going gets tough. CL modems were (probably) mainly sold in PCs (I never saw one in a box) - if you know the PC maker and model you should find drivers on the PC maker/Seller's web site. The majors (IBM, compaq, Dell, HP, PB, e-machines??, ...) probably each used some CL modems - it will be tough, but the drivers are probably posted on one of those sites (I found CL GD5428 at compaq about a year ago, no place else).

Hope some of this helps,
Henry

Just noticed your reply above - I'll bet the model number really is CL-MD1414, a 14.4Kbps.

CL-1414HVF these numbers finally produce on google.

http://www.twstore.com/twstore/used2.html

It's a 14.4 internal isa modem. Should be a hardware modem so jumper it for an unused com port, say com2 (io-2f8 and irq-4) then disable the onboard com2 in the bios. If com2 isn't listed in the device manager install it with Add Hardware in the contol panel. Then install the modem using the standard modem types 14400 drivers.

well if it is a 14.4 modem i don't think it is really worth
the trouble to find a driver for it, especially with all
complications that will be waiting for me if i should choose
to pursue this task further. i think i'll just buy i nice pci 56k modem
and be done with it. but again i still feel that the industries
arent making it very convenient for one to find a lost driver.
thanks for all the support everyone hope to do the same
for you soon.

:) Try Driverguide.com. I use it all the time and have had no problem yet in finding a driver for anything.
Good luck
