A Winter's day
In bright and sunny Queensland;
I am alone,
Gazing from my shores to the waters below
Into a crystal clear silent shroud of H 2 O.
I am a coral cay,
I am an island.
I’ve built coral walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That fish and divers may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It’s 57 species of nesting birds and it’s turtles I contain.
I am a premier dive spot,
I am an island.
Don’t talk of love,
Many tourists have heard the words before;
It’s sleeping in my memory.
I won’t disturb the lumber and steel lighthouse that has died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I have an airstrip,
I am an island.
I have my resort
And my staff to look after you;
I am shielded by the water,
Hiding off the coast, safe from cars and boats,
I touch everyone and everyone is touched by me.
I am part of the Great Barrier Reef,
I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.
In bright and sunny Queensland;
I am alone,
Gazing from my shores to the waters below
Into a crystal clear silent shroud of H 2 O.
