Thanks Danny,
Did you actually use the 'Disc Label' function, or just 'Title Name'? Also, are you able to read the entire 'Title Name' (all 32 characters) or just the little bit that is visible on the 'Title List' screen? If you did use the 'Disc Label' function, how is the 'Disc Label' displayed, please?
Rob.
leggy, yes i used both. the disc label is on the top left of the title list screen. the title name is only the little bit that appears on the thumb unless you hit the info button.

In EQ mode (6 hours) is the quality upto that of LP VHS?
Also in VR mode do I understand correctly that this can only be played on VR compatible units? If so what modes are available for me to record to so that I can give the dvd to someone to view on their own stand alone player?
(I need to record a Foxtel soap for my sister every week which is 5 hours long each week and fitted nicely using LP on a video)[/QUOTE]
reslo, i have recorded from a stb on this mode and thought it was ok, it was only a drama , not sport etc.i wouldnt use the analog for this.
foxtel should be good.
as for +rw dl , too dear and cant be played on many dvd players.
as a sug. i saw sony -rw for $16 for a 5 pack at woolies on the weekend.
unless you want to heavily edit?
then you can record on a higher level and use the same 5

Hi Reslo,
Goshy has provided a stack of info, hasn't he?
In answer to your compatability question, if you record in VIDEO mode and finalise the disc (either -R or -RW) then it will (should) play on other players. I have recorded using -RW and it plays ok on my older Samsung V70. I have only played with HQ and SQ and they were acceptable depending on the content, but I have heard that LQ and EQ can be marginal. A lot depends on the quality of the signal being recorded. I guess if you are recording Fox, then the usual reception issues with analogue FTA will not play a part. I would suggest that -RW would be the go so you can record over it, unless your sister wants a library!

Thanks Danny,
When I set up thr 'disc label' it starts out on the 'title list' screen, but disappears after finalising takes place. The 'Title List' pop out (display) function works ok until I finalise, then I only get the first few characters.

Hi Goshy,
Sound advice, and the vendor (TGG) has been very good. Sadly LG has not, and seems unwilling to even discuss it. I have tried many times to speak to someone who knows the product, and can't get past a 'telephone answerer' who appears to be working from a flow chart on a screen. If I don't get a sensible response soon, I will take up the offer from TGG and swap to a Samsung R121.

Hi all,
Just had a call from the salesman @TGG, who has just heard back from LG.
It appears that, despite the wording of the manual, the Disc Label and Title Name functions aren't supported after finalisation in Video mode. This is apparently a situation unique to the 7922, so I'll be switching to the Samsung R121.
There was no hope offered by LG for a software upgrade, so the choices are limited.
Thanks to eceryone who has contributrd to this discussion.
Rob.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the LG today. I've tried the EQ and its sh*thouse, very pixelated and not really viewable. I dug around the web and found the following info on bitrates of the various recording levels which some of you may find interesting. (This was taken from the liteonit website for the 5005 DVD Recorder).
Notice the 6 hour record mode uses MPEG1 not MPEG2 and boy does it show. The 4 hour mode recorded much better with only minor pixelation but I agree with other posts that this is not the mode for recording anything with SFX etc. I guess I'll have to wait until RW-DL media comes on stream and hope that there will be a firmware upgrade for the LG.

Press: return.

Doeas anyone know which dvd recorder brands have remote units that will allow operation of jvc tvs?
I was keen on an LG recorder but believe they only work with a limited number, but not jvc.
Thanks.

i had that problem.
thats why my wife bought me an 8 in 1 learning lcd touch screen remote.
look up the model you want on the lg website and download the user manual.
tv models for the remote are in the back.
be aware though , they may list your brand , and it still may not work as manufacturers use different remote setups on different models.
sony for eg have about 4 different setups for tv alone.

Thanks for reply...
My wife is the reason for the plea! She wants it simple and using more than one remote isn't simple.
We have a remote for the hi-fi (audio) and one for the vcr and tv. The tv goes benefits from the vcr to get stereo sound, so if I put the tv aerial through the dvd recorder I will still need the tv's stand-alone remote. With the vcr (she wants to copy tapes) that will really complicate things!
What is the name of your 8-in-1 remote and where did you get it? Does it do sufficient functions on all units?
Cheers.:)

look on the dse website for a pic.
the 8 different remotes each have 2 full screens to use . can add and remove buttons , have 1 screen that controls the tv /dvd / volume on the amp ...............easy

I recently purchased a Supernet Set Top Box. I am very happy with it except for one problem. I now cannot record TV programs with my LG DR7922W DVD recorder, whereas before I had no problem recording with the Analogue signal.
This is how everything is set up at the moment - scart cable from back of STB to RCA Video in on DVD Recorder, then RCA cables from Video Out on DVD Recorder to AV1 on lg plasma. the DVD Recorder is also set on AV1
I can view all digital tv stations fine via the dvd recorder, however when i try to record i get an error message CANNOT COPY UNCOPYABLE MOVIE and it doesn't matter what program i am watching. If anyone out there knows a way around this your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for info on remotes. Will chase a few soon.
I've had a few salesmen try to convince me that in the 80GB HDD range of recorders, the Pioneer DVR-530H is streets ahead of the LG RH7521W.
The Pioneer is a bit over $100 dearer - is it worth the difference?
I'd be interested in comments from users of both recorders.
Thanks.

I have an update. Last night I tried another Set Top Box and I can record Digital TV fine. So it looks like the problem does not lie with the LG DR7922W DVD Recorder after all, It has something to do with the Supernet Set Top Box that I purchased from ebay. At least now I know where the problem lies. Thanks anyway.

The HAPPY bit:
Sorry, I've bailed out of this thread into silence, but it's just that my (2nd) LG DR7922 works just fine as far as can see.
I will recommend the version with the 8-2 memory card to family & friends IF it appears before Xmas in Aussie shops.
<snip>
The SAD bit:
I feel sorry for the vendors if the device has "quality of manufacture" problems, but really frankly that's the business game.
If it doesn't work quite right; refund money, swap it or repair it.
I'm a big fan of getting the money back ideally. Forget about repairs in the first month "insist" on refund or swap.

Hi Folks,
AFTER nearly 14 months of "happy" use, my 2nd LG DR7922 DVD Recorder died on Fri Oct 13th 2006 (no surprise....). Only the analog tuner still working and media playing or recording.... (sounds familiar).
Have took it back to the shop, who returned it for repair by LG Service etc etc under it's 3yr warranty. Well, 6 weeks later I'm still waiting for it to come back :-) and contact the shop staff for "light" updates.
As it's been superceded by the DR165, I'll move on to that model if/when LG Service decide to throw-in-the-towel and send a nice discount voucher for new products. Or maybe a juicy LG DVD+HDD+STB tuner..... yummy.
Of course, the word from LG Service is "they fixed, check and found another fault" um.... next week hopefully.
Anyone buying any sort of DVD, HDD, DVD+HDD or PVR Recorder with analog or digital tuner should only look at models with a 2yr or 3 yr warranty as standard! These things are far too expensive for merely a 12month warranty.
Cheers (~14months use? I got off lightly I suppose)

After 8 weeks, I'm still hearing the line "Promise to have it back by next week..."No wonder landfills are of full electrical hardware. It's hardly worth the bother even when there is warranty cover.
Stop Press!!! Huge development; the DVD Recorder back in the shop!
Alas, minus the remote control, and probably minus video/audio cables :-).
The remote costs $100+ to replace if lost~broken; and the"box" is useless without it anyway -so nothing has really changed. Technically, this just another delaying tactic....
Maybe next week? I'll to try it all in the shop BEFORE I take it home.
And this is not actually bad customer service - just poor 3rd party maintainance. Would you believe I still them to succeed it repairing it?
I've seen the landfills.....
