Not bad numbers out of the engine. I like the switchable
Tarmac/gravel/snow modes idea.

I wonder if that's the model I saw Ross Dunkerton in at the Mirrabooka shops
the other day. Nah, the number plate was a few months old. It was probably
an Evo VIII.

Still the same ol' 206 kW though (yeah right). Why won't they tell us the
real number?

My son wants one....he turned 19 a couple of months ago and got his
licence on his 18th birthday.
I've told him that if he can get insurance at a rate HE can afford
from a decent company, I'll buy him one.

Methinks my cash is safe in the bank for another couple of years :-)
Good thing is, they'll have an Evo X or even XI by then :-)

Yeah - for people with big heaps of money who are too stupid to know
how to drive on 'surfaces' as defined in software.
Shit I could have some fun with that.
Like, will the wallies buying these devices develop sufficiently quick
reactions to change modes as required by surface changes before
disaster befalls them?
Is the software smart enough to over-ride stupid driver settings?
Will insurance be voided if an EVOis found on it's back beside a
gravel road with the switch still in the tarmac position?
Will the ECU rat on drivers by recording the mode settings for, say;'
an hour before massive G's shut the system down?
These questions and more require answers!!

You're kidding, Right?

The Evo no matter what the setting will still outdrive bloody near
everything else.

Make him work, save and buy his own if you have any sense.

By the time he can afford insurance, he will be able to buy Mitsubishi.

That's how it worked for me, and 10 years down the track, I reckon I'm
better off for it.

Damn right. I see these spoonfed snotnosed fucking know it alls at work all
the time and none of them have ever had to work to obtain something they
really wanted because they've had everything bought for them.
And they are completely useless compared to their counterparts who need to
work towards goals.

My kids have been 'given' a lot.
I believe that I'm in a position to afford to reward them when they
exceed by a long way any of the goals that they have set themselves.

I see no problem with this as they have worked (in a sense) to achieve
the goals rather than just being given something because they asked as
is often the case.

What on earth could your kid possibly have achieved to earn him a new car?

I would consider buying a new car for my son a big benefit for me, ie I
wouldn't have to spend considerable time and effort keeping his EA
running till the end of next year when he finishes uni:-)

Looks bloody good for the money - something like $56k now? Wasn't the
Evo VI more like $80k when it landed here a few years ago?

Will have a good look when the Sydney Motor Show comes around this
year. (Not that I'm buying - no more small cars for me - but still
interested.)

56k for an evo9 is a fantastic price. its driveline and awd system is very
impressive, and lends itself to having a huge amount of semi controlled fun
on the track and similar :)
