View Full Version : Motorway Patrol Dob-in-a-driver

Gotta admit that Ive not seen it in Australia but wonder whats the thought
of NG members in regards to the tattics that are used to locate dodgy
drivers on the NZ motorways?
Tattics I mean are as seen on the NZ show where the coppers have a member of
the public that have reported the offenders drive behind with hazards on
until a patrol car can locate them.
Would you do it? ( stay with offender with hazards on I mean)

Yep, Done it!
Two cars travelling on the freeway at 40k under the limit, side by
side having a chat.
When I pulled up behind one and flashed my lights, he jumped on the
brakes then accelerated off to catch up to his mate again.
They and their passengers then proceeded to flip me the bird, hang out
the windows and abuse me.
I rang the coppers and then just sat behind em on the phone to the
Police letting them know just where we were.
Police caught me, sat behind me for a few minutes to observe then
passed and pulled over both cars.
I was thanked for my efforts.

Tactics! bloody hell, we are turning back into an aural/oral society again,
nobody reads any more.
I'd like to dob in most excel drivers for being dickheads. "Excel at 2 o
clock. hazards are go".

NSW police introduced the scheme in the 80's. Spent millions of taxpayers hard earned cash to promote it.
I witnessed a very dangerous practice and it was obvious that it would continue to be so.
In response to the police promotion, I telephoned (Ballina) police station to report the matter on to be told by the
plod that answered the phone "what do you expect me to do about it!"
Like a lot of NSW initiatives (like the TV promotion of a plod walking the beat, stopping to say hello to the residents)
- not worth a knob of goats poop if police can't be bothered carrying out the governments instructions.
But speeding? - Oh, that's been done hasn't it :)

True, but I've got a huge weekend.
My dad's 80 and all 8 kids will be there with partners and their kids,
and their kids. over 20 grandkids and a half doen great grandkids.
Plus a mate is ahving his 50th so tonight, I relax.
Seriously, by the time the coppers caught us up, that pair had
probably 50 or so cars behind them and thought it was a great joke.
IMHO, they deserved instant licence loss.

Done it, on the way into Narrandera NSW. I called the cops, and a HWP
drove out of Narrandera towards me, so I flashed my lights at them when I
saw them. They did one of their really impressive high-speed U-turns, hit
the disco lights and hauled arse right up behind the dickhead in front of
me to pull him up, as I slowed down and stayed back.
This was a few years ago, so I can't remember what the person in question
was doing.

Maybe yours were taught to respect other people's stuff, unlike some of

Alcohol/drugs (driver zonked and therefore dangerous), yes.
Others, maybe at a distance (without hazards), unless it was dangerous
to them/me/others.
Each instance would seem to warrant an on-the-spot decision.
I believe in Karma, so I would leave hoons/excessive
speedsters/ragers/hogs to their own devices. They will get their
desserts eventually.

The reason I initially asked was that I have done this while in NZ as well,
had the Police control on the line and they informed me that there wasn't a
copper for the next 20 kms or so and they actually asked if I could keep up
with the guy so that when they caught up to us he could be identified. At
time yes he got well over the 100MPH mark but hey I knew there wasn't any
coppers around. Stayed wwwwwaaaaaaayyyyyyy back as the guy was drunk and
acting pretty dangerously with lane changes (Don't know if they were
voluntary or not!).
Was the quickest trip that I've ever had on that piece of road that's for
sure. Should make a false call like that for the M1 Brissie to Surfers and
see if they tell me that there no coppers around for 20kms, I'm sure the V6
could get a nice little workout. :-)
