If you were visiting Australia from the UK and forgot to
bring your UK license, however carried passport as proof
of identity - still OK to drive? - would a faxed copy of
license be OK, or would the real thing be required?

Are you talking about renting a car? Avis used to accept a faxed
licence (this was some years ago) but may be less willing now, I'm not
sure.

But as for just driving a car, say a friend or relative's vehicle, I
don't see that it would be a problem, the chances of being pulled over
are not great. I've lived in the UK for 10 years and in 10 trips back
to Oz probably totalling 12 months cumulatively I've only been pulled
over once, so if not driving would be a great inconvenience, I'd say go
for it.

Express post the original - how difficult would that be?

Very - required tommorow morning. Looks like might have sorted
other arrangements though (bus). It gets worse, can't contact
folk with house keys.

Reminds me of the time I did same when O/Seas and had to have
friend go to house, find key to truck, get license from truck,
then send it express post.

They are prolly better off going to the Hunter Valley
vineyards via coach anyway rather than rental. Might be
a PITA for the rest of the .AU holiday though, and up
in QLD.
