Can someone tell me when it officially opens for vehicular traffic ? I've got to
pick someone up in Paddington tomorrow (Sunday) late morning then go to the Blue
Mountains, so I want to know if I can still use the usual routes. I live on the
north side and don't know the eastern suburbs much at the best of times.
Thanks,
DS

There is a charity tunnel walk starting (Sunday) at 10:30am so I can't
see how it would open anytime earlier than mid afternoon at best.
Hope you have your etag ready... :-)

I thought it was Monday morning -like midnight Sunday .
Meh just go thru ,presumabley a couple of pedestrians won't pose a problem
to a man in a vehicle ?Just attach a flashing orange beacon to the top -
that's basically a ticket to ride thru most construstion areas .
Hope that helps

11:45pm according to the SMH (and that appears to be at the earliest)

I pity you,
According to 2UE, road closures for the tunnel have already come into effect. There is traffic
chaos in the area at the moment.

Can't you just drive during the charity 'walk'? Tell them that you
forgot your shoes and had to drive instead!

West-bound opens at 11.45pm Sunday night. Police cars will lead first
cars through the tunnel to Darling Harbour. Then, the police will
scoot around to the east-bound entrance and do the reverse trip.

Is this a ceremonious thing or is there a practical reason behind it?

I should have checked the RTA website first. I have since made other
arrangements for my pickup (she can go to Strathfield station and so I will
avoid humongous crowds doing the tunnel walk, plus not have to work out another
route).....

Should have the radar setup up at end of tunnel by 11:50.

Cams are in place and working to their settings (whatever that
may be) well before that. Take it a *lot* under the limit until
sussed out as being accurate, then still stay a couple of kays
under the limit to avoid being busted. You really don't want
to know the tricks that will be tried here ...
I could go into the Spit Bridge tricks of past, but won't.

Pretty useless piece of road unless you have masses of spare funds to afford
to the toll tag account charges.

what toll tag accoutn charges? get an e-toll rather than an e-tag and you
have no account charges.

Watch carefully as the CBD is gradually turned into a no car zone and
the X City Tunnel becomes and essential piece of roadway.
Would be interesting to see just which pollies and councillors have
shares in that action.

What's the go with this tunnel anyway? They are going to force all traffic
to use it and close the streets? They say you have to have a e tag... what
about blow-ins, tourists etc?

You must have a dumber class of visitor up there. A few signs around the
place in Melbourne soon fixed this little problem.
