I picked up one of these players based on the possitive comments in this forum and have been very happy with it's build and picture quality.

Just one strange thing though, I watch alot of anime and as noted in other threads the fan subs tend to be cut off of the bottom of the picture. When playing around with the zoom settings, if I move the area being zoomed down to to the bottom of the screen the inch of screen that is usually missing (during normal play) is now visible, when I un-zoom back to 100% the overscan problem is back.

To me this would infer that it is the dvd player was causing the overscan problem but for the life of me I can't see an option in the dvd menu's that will fix my problem.

All in all, the LG 9723P is an awsome player and for the majority of stuff it will be fine, but if anyone has any advise for my fullscreen anime problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

the 9723 has various zooming abilities (similar to most dvd players) from memory there is a 400%, 1200% and another one that I think is meant to remove the bars from a 4:3 widescreen picture.

How hard would it be to have a 95% zoom? Ok, I think I'm just going crazy now as I've been searching everywhere for a service menu code for my TV to modify the overscan amount. But then again everything else displays fine so if I change my TV then it will stuff everything else up.

I guess I'll just have to watch my Naruto on the xbox, mind you, these hardware players poo all over the xbox media center (which it's only saving grace is that it fortunately allows manual modification of the overscan amount via the controller).

The overscan issue is common to Anime for whatever reason, other players suffer exactly like your one in this respect, some monitors are more forgiving though.

The only one I've seen that handles anime subtitles really well is the Rowa. Unfortunately, the failure rate on them is extremely high.

The failure rate on them is not actually that high, their compatibility with certain media and file types is a problem though.

I must just have a biased sample - everyone I know who's bought one (myself included) has had problems at some point over the yearly period after purchase. I'll take your word for it though - you've probably got better visibility than I do.

Ironically, I never had a problem with media. All the discs I used worked perfectly.

Don't get me wrong, there definately has been some that have had issues, thankfully not all though.
