View Full Version : Acetone addition to fuel

Hi
Did some googling when I heard about adding Acetone to either Petrol or
Diesel to inc. fuel economy.
Seems more "pro" info than negative. And the "pro" reasoning seems to
be more realistic than a Magnetic Fuel Thingo (Brocky type of thing) :-)
Anyone tried adding Acetone to fuel?
thanks
Tony

Acetone will most likely fuck any rubber bits in the fuel system.

Since it's calorific value (MJ/kg or BTU/lb) lies somewhere between
petrol and methanol it can't possibly increase fuel economy (a google
search should get the actual values). The lower calorific value means
you have to burn more of it for the same energy output.
It will remove any water from your fuel tank, which is about the only
gain you're likely to get.
Other than that it's quite suitable as a fuel for spark ignition
engines if you can afford to buy it and have your engine retuned to
suit... probably won't do a diesel any good however.

Acetone when used correctly works and is safe on the car
