Hi all.

I am after a cheap DivX DVD Player.
One that works, doesn't have to be a known brand.
Anybody have one to let go?

is the reason you want one so you can play downloaded movies (avi) after putting them to disc. If so why not just convert them to mpeg\dvd and then put them on to disc it shouldnt take very long and it'l save you $50-$150 that you would be paying for a divx dvd player (even if you did go for a second hand one)

Megamart and Myer were selling LG duel layer dvd recorders with mpeg4, divx 3,4,5 and xvid formats for $290 today on special. I believe the sale ended today but megamart would still give you the good discount on them. They were reduced from like 350 or something for f/day

I already got a DVD Burner, but I really want a DivX DVD Player where I can fit heaps of movies/episodes on a single dvd instead of heaps so that's why I want a DivX DVD Player. Also if dvd recorders play divx as well, i will get them instead. Do they?

DVD Recorders with DivX playback are starting to appear, not as well sorted as standalone DivX players though.

Unfortunately the average human does not live that long.

It takes a while to convert an AVI to DVD format.. encoding... burning...
I bought myself an LG multi-format unit.. plays Divx fine :) Nice menu system as well. They're selling for around $95-99.

Do these dvd recorders use standard IDE HDD's or are they designed specifically for the dvd player? could you theoretically buy a recorder with an 80gig hdd and replace it with a 300gig.

They do use IDE drives, depends on the brand, some have have firmware limitations as to what drives will be supported, others will take any drive, they can vary between makes and models.

I've ordered one and it should be arriving next week.
When it does I'll update the thread with it's capabilities.

i've got the latest build of xbmc on my xbox and i'd highly recommend it. this is a link to the xbmc online manual and has the info on what codecs are supported http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php?wakka=AboutTheProject. btw i have tried playing some avi files on it and none have failed to play so far. hope this helps :)

i figure since it's been over 2 years might as well restart this thread. there's bound to be good cheap divx players out now..

Nah, no need to open a 2 year old thread here as there are regular threads on this topic in the DVD Stuff and Divx Stuff sections. Just go there and you should get plenty of help or can do plenty or research. :) - Watcher
