I got this player a while back and for the most part I'm happy with it. But theres one thing that confuses me. Whenever I play something, generally divx type files, the picture is blown up a little more then it should. Say for example...2inches on each side and top and bottom are lost. I had the same problem with the XMS989, but at least with that player I could zoom the picture inwards, compared to the LG player which ONLY zooms outward, annoyingly.

I've been trying to ponder what causes it, whether its the player or the tv since 2 players do this. But I have a fairly spiffy panasonic only a year old, so its no old thing. Would it be the cables used since I'm using standard AV ones? And does this LG player only make pictures larger and not smaller like the XMS? Thanks for any feedback.

From what you've described it's the same anoying problem I'm experiencing in the the thread directly below yours. I've looked everywhere for a fix but can't find one, the best I could get was that if your TV has a service menu usually there is a setting which adjusts the amount of overscan, but this can cause problems with your tv showing the garbage that comes with standard tv broadcasts.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell this can't be done directly from the DVD player, there is a hacked firmware available for the 8xxx and 9xxx series players but it currently doesn't do anything for the overscan issues.

Overscan is always going to be an issue on (current) CRT screens.
Someone posted a thread on Zensonic's Forum a while back on reencoding / resizing with Virtualdub that you may want to look at. (particularly geared towards anime)

Thanks, but I guess I'll just watch the stuff on my PC instead. I'm a lazy bastard :D
