Have a look at the Z500 website, there has been a bit of feedback there comparing this model to the Z500 and what features are comparable and what this one doesn't have http://www.z500series.com/forum/

To be fair, the Z500 has not been released yet however there are things that the Z500 will support that the Buffulo will not be able to due to differences in the hardware, if they are things that will not affect your choice then fair enough, the feedback on the Buffalo regarding firmware issues and the follow up from suppliers has not been too positive either. Have a look at these forums also http://www.mpeg-playcenter.com/modules.php?name=Forums and http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php?s=

Z500 is aiming to be the top of the Wireless Net DVD players, we are waiting to see the product. So far, in the available models in the market that can be compared with the Z500 is Snazio SZ1350. This is the second generation of the network DVD player/Cinema products. The video format supported include WMV9 MP@HL, MPEG2 MP@HL, DivX HD, using Sigma disign processor EM8620L. It has DVI out put for HD plasma TV, and also have normal S-Video, Composite Video, Component Video output. Sound output support 5.1 channel RCA, Optical, Coaxial SPDIF digital audio.

In the Snazio product portfolio, there is another NAS product called Tere NAS HD Pro that can be compare with Buffalo tere NAS. The difference is SNAZIO tere NAS (Network Attached Storage) using hardware RAID 5 controller that can be tolarent for partial HDD failure while the whole NAS still functioning.
Buffalo using software RAID controller will shut down the whole NAS when one HDD failure.

Depends on the price as well. The Bufallo only supports FAT formatted drives via its USB port, as well as the firmware issues as discussed in the forums above.

However, the Z500 is expected to cost @$550.00 (you can pre-order from one place now at $500), whereas the bufall can br bought 'BIN' for $380.00 on Ebay.
