Looks like some definate improvements on the Z300 and Z330 players I've owned.

But I still prefer my LG :)

Should be, a lot of work has been going into fine tuning the firmware before release.

Can't see the chipset mentioned but it smells like MT1389. If so, that means no 3 warp point GMC support and therefore no reason to for me to budge from my LG... :PI

Nice work Sherlock:PI Not aware of any chipset in a consumer player that can handle 3 warp point yet, not surprising as it is designed to take advantage of the PC, the processsor in a player is nowhere near that complex yet, might happen one day, who knows.

The z340 looks alot better built then the z330. Over on the Whirlpool forums there was a discussion on the new z500 and it was brought up several times and how flimsy the z330 was. We were told by Chuna, he is from Zensonic, that instead of just slapping Zensonic on a already made piece of hardware they are building them themselves and quality control was going to be much better this time around. I am not sure if that was just for the z500 or if that also goes for the z340 though.

Here is the thread I am referring to by the way.

I wonder how much one of these retails for or when they will be available. I wouldn't mind picking one of these babies up if they are as good as they sound :)

The 340 is replacing the 330, pricing will be the same.

I just got a reply about the z340.

The Z340 is not built from the ground up. Its a 3rd party just like the Z330. Only the Z500 is built from the ground up.

Still, it looks more solid than the z330.

It is more solid, it's an upspec unit compared to the 330, the 500 is a ground up build and will be priced accordingly, other purpose built units will follow and will also be more expensive than your average DVD player, the 340 and others like it will fill the value end of the range, a lot more pressure is being put on the factories to improve the QC, basic DVD functionality cannot justify a purpose built player unfortunately, only a mass producer can provide at marketable cost, a lot of emphasis has been put on getting the best quality components that can be provided at the price.

Well that's good news :)

If the z330 I got now quits working I will give the z340 a go. If the build quality is better than I am in :)

Is Z340 on sale now? Which brick and mortar shops sell it and how much is it going to cost?

Yes, the Z330 is flimsy indeed. Overscan, lousy remote that you have to point almost right in front of the unit for it to work etc etc. At least it can do some subtitle files that the xms 888 can't.

It is ashame that the z340 can not take compact flash card........:(

Not yet, will be available end of next month

Same retailers that have sold the 330 will have access to the 340, price will be the same as the 330
