You must have a light foot Noddy.

I get 6.5 k's per litre in the Fairlane around town on gas or around 48 to
50 litres for 320 k's
and
7.8 kpl on a trip or 46 litres for 350 k's

Not really.

I mean, I certainly don't cane the crap out of the thing whenever I get in
it (which isn't very often), but I don't drive with economy in mind. In
fact, I drive it much the same as I would drive anything else, and that's
what it returns.

Yep, IIRC, he also got 13l/100 from it while towing a ZD 'Lane + 2
Clevos on a tandem trailer, I reckon when he drives his mums Getz, it
actually produces petrol for him :)

450 kms (town and country) per 34 litres of petrol. That's in a hulking
great gas-guzzling 4WD. (well, a Vitara. It's all 4WD though).
I don't know how people with big cars (like Falcons) can afford petrol
right now.

That was on petrol.

On petrol it averages 12.5l/100km, and towing (even large loads) doesn't
have much of an effect on that. Most of the time if I have to tow something
heavy I do it with an empty (or near empty) gas tank if possible, as the gas
tank is right at the very rear behind the rear bumper, and if I hook a heavy
trailer up to it the thing tends to drag it's arse.

It needs it's rear springs retensioned, but I can't be fucked doing it.

Shit. I get 11litres/100kms in the Subaru. But I tend to flog it a bit.

My AU2 gets thrashed every day, ie it will see redline about a dozen times
or more each trip and still returns a favourable 350km from 66 litres of
gas. That's city use too.

Does get it's oil changed every 5000km though and plugs, leads e.t.c often.

Thats fine Fraser, but you have to consider the difference in comfort of
ride between the Falcon and Subaru
then again you have the difference between a Falcon Wagon and a Subaru,
another factor
I have a Fairlane which has the same wheelbase as the Falcon Wagon and I
would prefer the ride from either of these than in a Subaru.
I do heaps of kilometres and a short wheelbased Subaru would send me to the
Physiotherapist in a day.

Yeah, it's pretty good.

I wasn't concerned about the economy when I bought it, and expected it to be
in the 15's or so for a vehicle of it's size and capacity, but it has me
geniunely impressed by how good it is on fuel. I don't know anyone else with
one so I can't make any comparisons to see if mine's just a freak or if
that's how they are, but I'm not complaining about it.

It depends largely on what Suby you're talking about.

I've had plenty of Fairlanes and love the ride of the bigger cars, but have
also had a few Suby's and some of them are pretty damn comfortable. Even the
older shit-fighters like the '84 Sportswagon that we had for years was a
comfortable car to drive on long distances, and the newer ones are simply
great.

The current Forrester & Outback are a pretty nice car, and great to drive.

Especially mine. Suspension has been tweaked and it is pretty hard. The
nice sport seats kinda make up for it. I'm still looking forward to the
spongy suspensioned Charger though.

It's a hemi motor isn't it? Any relation to the old hemis? I'm
contemplating a fuel injection upgrade on the Charger and I'm wondering if
the injector rail etc would bolt on?

No, it's not a hemi. It looks just like a Red motor Holden engine, and it's
just as much of a dinosaur :)

Throttle body injection only, nut it doesn't see a lot of petrol use.

It's a pushrod 2 valve (from memory) inline 6 of similar capacity but
that's where the similarities end.

I'm
> contemplating a fuel injection upgrade on the Charger and I'm wondering if

Nope. If you want to go that way, run a triple weber inlet and throttle
body (they look like webers) injection (actually the injectors aren't
necessarily in the throttle body section itself) or you could make up
you own plenum to feed all the runners of the triple weber inlet
manifold and run a single (big) throttle body at the entrance.

I also know of people who have used the cain 4 barrel hemi inlet
manifold and welded in injector bungs in the runners, and run a large
pseudo 4 barrel throttle plate setup.

And lastly, I've seen a combo that used a triple weber inlet manifold,
with the plenum section from an EFI Xf ford 250. Joined to the weber
inlet man from custom made mandrel bent pipes (they basically look
similar to the factory xf inlet runners that curved around from the
plenum and to the head) They removed the std throttle body on the ford
inlet, and replaced it with a gra carb at that spot (possibly needed to
have that section of the inlet manifold/throttle plate base opened up to
suit the throttle diameter of the gra carb)
