Anyone else been given the ole recall by Toyota for steering bits that may
be cracked?
Glad to see that they are letting everyone know and are paying for it.
Dear Toyota Owner,
Thank you... blah blah blah...., Toyota is announcing a recall campaign that
includes your vehicle.
In the subject vehicles equipped with power steering, a fatigue crack may
develop on the steering relay rod. the crack may occur if the steering wheel
is repeatedly turned under certain conditions where high steering effort is
required. In extreme cases the steering relay rod may fracture causeing a
loss of vehicle steering control.
(Large bit snipped here cause its boring)
Bassically call Toyota on 1800 643 242 8-4:30 Mon to Fri (EST)
Toyota.

I looked at the US recall and I don't think my 2003 Xtra Cab is
included, AFAIK the problem is with earlier models.

Nope. I'm not sure it affects the LN106 ... even if it did I would be
the last person informed. Customer fuzzy fuzzy recall like the last
where they _removed_ the front engine hanger on the 3L diesel because
it _might_ become unbolted and jam the throttle? (I've still got my
hanger thanks. Imported Smurfs have theirs too - strangely).
ToyCo justification is it only takes one failure .... Hmmm.

Solid front axle here. Not that I would have heard of it - the change
of ownership card submitted was ignored when I bought the vehicle.
If you are looking at a recall going back to 1988, and on something
of such volume as these vehicles, I'd seriously expect a nut or
bolt may or may not need a once over check.
Where is the crack located on the diagram below?

There is a Smurf I should prolly check out over the
weekend.
