I hope someone can help me here.
My system locked up last night (Win98se) and when it rebooted everything was fine except for the font (or icons) used for things like Max, Min, Close buittons in the title bar, the scroll arrows in explorer etc. Any ideas on how to get the defaults back? Right now they kind of look like Mac icons. If a picture would be of more help, please see the attachment for examples...
I know it must be buried in a system setting somewhere, but I can't figure out where.
Thanks in advance

thats really weird
it sounds like a video card problem. probably there is something wrong w/ the drivers, which caused the computer to crash, and when u rebooted, may have corrupted them or something
try reinstalling the drivers. if not, go to the manufactor's site and download new ones. dont forget to backup the old ones first!

This problem is usually caused by a corrupt font, marlett.ttf which can be restored from the Win 98 CD. The easiest way to do this is probably to go to Start, Run then type "sfc" (without quotes) to run the system file checker. Go to the extract option and type C:\WINDOWS\FONTS\Marlett.ttf making sure the Win98 CD is in. Press start then Make sure that the restore from line indicates the path to the win98 folder on the CD (eg D:\WIN98). Make sure that a backup is made when prompted then complete the operation by following the next few screens.
I hope that this helps

Yeah Rob, you were right. It was the Marlett font. Unfortunately, I followed Microsofts' advice (from thier knowledgebase), that said to reinstall ALL the fonts. Well this was fine until I went back on the web. I noticed immedially that some fonts did not display correctly, and anything I tried to print was turned to garbage. I ended up re-installing my system, (which I backed up on CD just for this type of catastrophic failure). So all and all it wasn't too bad.
pcchipsficaopen, re-installing the video drivers and tools (3dfx) was the first thing I tried. but that was of no use.
Thanks for the help guys, I'm back up and running.
