Hi, this is my first post here so I apologize if my thread is not in the
right section,

I have recently bought a new PC without an OS since I already have a
windows xp home edition CD. The installation problems start right at
the beginning, with the system unable to boot from the CD (after
changing the boot priority to CD first of course).

I then tried booting from a standard floppy disk (bootdisk essentials).
This way I was able to access the CD. But when I run the winnt.exe setup
file, I always get the following message:

"An internal setup error has occured.
Could not find a place for a swap file. Setup cannot continue. Press
enter to exit".

I've already installed windows myself many times before and I've never
had this problem. Can anyone help me out, I've been searching for
answers on the net for a while but I have yet to find something
satisfying.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

You may have either damaged ram or a damaged hard drive. If you want to
check the memory, there are free programs here:

http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/download.asp
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

For the hard drive, I would download a diagnostic tool from the drive
manufacturer. This should tell you the state of the drive. Also, if you have
used a third party tool to partition and format the drive, don't. Let
Windows setup do it with a blank drive, it does not always agree with the
drive overlays used by those tools.
