View Full Version : CAV Audio - Anyone heard of them?

Apparently they make high end audio gear.
I had a brief look and listen to their amps at a store, build wise they
looked awfully solid and damn heavy, their 2 channel ones were equally
impressive. I was very shocked.
Sound wise I had a listen, couldnt fault it. But I didnt have time to
have a long demo. I was told there's another amp an A-8 which is top
notch, from that I can find specs wise it seems very impressive.
The range of speakers and visual build quality was impressive.
But i'm struggling to find any decent info,
I do know Denman audio in melbourne sells this stuff, but their prices
are waaaaaay more than this other mob were charging.
Grays Online (Auctioners) often have CAV stuff on sale at around half the retail.
I WOULD NOT buy one of their amps as a stand alone reciever/amp, but if it's a part of their ackage (like Bose) then thats fine. If you can compare it with something you know and can understand the signal path and how they might be altering it to make it sound better, then it sounds pretty solid.
If they don't have a Web Site, or reviews by a professional, then how good are they? I'd say stick to what you know (Krix are made in Australia and are a standard in many theatres).

Difference between package and stand alone?
CAV's website is pretty poor, I spoke to Denman audio today who gave me
a little insight on CAV's product. BTW Denman sell CAV's A-8 for $5999
or something. However I can get that amp for under $2k anyway direct
from an importer.
>From what I have been able to find out these amps are solid, and seem
to sound good, thats going by the ones I heard yesterday.
But how good are they? Im dying to find out.
Otherwise i'll just go stick with getting a Sherwood Newcastle 965

I did a search when they appeared on the Graysonline auction, and found lots
in Chinese.

Audiophile in Brunswick Melb has one for $799 or $700 if you offer cash -
normally $2,200.
I turned it down because of its silver and mirror face - totally unsuited to
my set up but the unit seems fine. Big unit.

Which place is this?
For that money i'd just buy one for the sake of it.
Asthetics don't bother me, performance does.

Now I remember where I saw Cav,
http://www.nzaudio.co.nz/Index.cfm?szOperation=ProductDetail&ID=225

New Zealands Tone magazine, gave it a pretty good review iirc.

Thanks for that,
I saw that amp, but sadly didnt get to listen to it.
Also that RRP is about double what I saw it selling for.

People familiar with Tone magazine would not be surprised at that product,
or any other, getting a good review.

It is NZ dollars, but it still should not be that much more. A little
profiteering maybe?

As I asked earlier, do you know anything about CAV products?
