Walk in another man's shoes and you walk a dangerous path.
John Nolan (Jeff Goldblum - Cats & Dogs) is a successful but unsatisfied businessman whose ordered and indulgent life is about to be shattered. He has stopped at his local bottle shop to pick up a specialty wine order, but when he sees the label, Nolan asks for another bottle.
It is a fatal request.
While the assistant is looking for it in the storeroom, an armed robber holds up the shop. When the assistant returns, he is shot and later dies. Guilt ridden and feeling responsible, Nolan is driven to find out more about the assistant known as Auggie Rose. For Nolan, it becomes a bizarre obsession and as he discovers more about the former criminal and loner, he is inextricably drawn into Auggie’s mysterious and dangerous life and suddenly, assumes, it.
<center><b>AUDIO/VISUAL:</b></center>
Audio:
Auggie Rose has just the one audio option which is Dolby Digital 2.0
The DVD makes little use of the rears, but it does contain some subtle surround sounds, but they are of a more ambient nature and the music (which really suits the feel of the movie) makes best use of the surrounds more than anything.
Speech was in sync and came through very clear without any signs of trouble.
Overall, the Dolby Digital 2.0 serves the movie well.
Video:
The movie is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen and is 16:9 enhanced.
I found the picture to be mostly clean, sharp and free from any major imperfections.
There were some very occasional instances of small specs, but they are few and far between and shouldn't really bother anyone.
Colours are mostly fine as are flesh tones and shadow detail.
<center><B>EXTRA FEATURES:</b></center>
Theatrical Trailer - Standard form of trailer that sells the movie well.
Runs for 1.47 mins and is in widescreen.
<center><B>OVERALL:</b></center>
This movie looks nice on DVD and the Dolby Digital 2.0 audio serves the movie well but the extra features only consist of just a theatrical trailer.
Auggie Rose is an interesting film that's been very well done and contains some fine acting by all involved, with Goldblum in particular giving a very good performance.
I found it easy to follow and was easily drawn in from the very start.
It may not be to everyone's taste though and I'd suggest that this may be better as a rental before deciding to make a purchase.
