getting Optus PayTV sound through amp / speakers

Hi
i just had to replace my amp (NEC replaced by Pioneer - don't laugh, it's
serious) and at the same time had Optus PayTV reinstalled at home.

My speakers work fine but I cannot work out how to play sound from the PayTV
(which goes through my VCR and then my amp) on the speakers. The sound comes
through on the TV speakers fine, but not via the amp.

The Optus set (one of those old horrible ones) has 2 rca one of which serves
the image and the other feeds the sound. However when I plug it into my
amp, surprise surprise, I get just the one channel.

What do I need to get stereo ?

Also, the techo left me a cable connection that I can use to run from the
Optus unit into an aerial socket on the TV (AV 1 or AV2) but no matter what
i do, I can't get pic or stereo sound.

Any clues ?

Easy answer:
You have been provided with a Mono feed. To resolve this you need a 'Y Chord' Rca to 2-Rca connection cable. Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, Tandy or any other electronics place should be able to help you out. Don't pay over $10 if you can, if the sales guy tells you you need the $50 Monstor Cable connection for superior sound, laugh and go to the $2 store and got a cheap one there.

As for the arial:
This broadcasts the Optusbox onto one signal, just like a normal free-to-air channel. You will need to pick a unused channel and tune it into the Optus Box. (This option will replace your Existing Arial connection to the TV, so may be more of a hinderance than a help).

Thanks 19. I wondered if the feed was mono but thought 'nah, surely they
have a more advanced system than that' - but apparently not. I thought they
died with the dinosaurs but thought wrong.

Yes, replacing the normal arial would be a pain in the butt. I think i'll
stick to playing through my VCR etc.
