Went and saw The Last Castle today.
For those who don't know......
It stars James Gandolfini(The Sopranos) and Robert Redford and is set in a maximum security military prison.
It was pretty enjoyable and my only minor criticism is that it did suffer from the odd cliche'.
It easily gets the thumbs up from me. :D
Anyone else seen it or wants to?
Comments?
(Please don't reply with any spoilers and mess up for those who are yet to see it.) :)

Hi,
I wouldn't mind seeing it, as I like the actors in it.
The only thing I'm worried about is the cliches that u mentioned.
I had a feeling there'd be a few!
Have they borrowed elements from The Rock, or Shawshank Redemption?
If u wanna see a good war flick, go & see Apocalypse Now Redux: it's worth it!!

I don't want to say too much as don't want to give away spoilers (something I make an effort to avoid).
I think the movie needed the occasional cliche' for the formula to work. Just take it for what it is and you should enjoy it.
I still recommend it and I'm actually going to see it again with some friends sometime this weekend.
As for Apocalypse Now Redux.....
That's another one I'm looking forward to seeing.:)

damn, I just realised reading this thread I haven't seen The Castle yet. That Gandolfini cat is popping up more and more these days, and in some older films which I never noticed him in before, as well, which is cool and adds a new dimension to older flicks.
I also wanted to see The Others, but a stupid friend said she saw it and I asked "Any good?" and she tells me the ending! When I told her she was an idiot and never to do it again, she just laughed and didn't have a clue what the big deal was.
Bloody shame too, I've heard some good things from people who's opinions I trust.
Off with the plot spoiler's heads, I say!

Same here. Have to agree there!
I'd never noticed him til I became a Sopranos fan and now I seem to be seeing him everywhere since.:D
Oh, I also agree about the spoilers. I HATE spoilers.

I went to see this and wasn't to thrilled.
Not sure if you'd class the following as a SPOILER, but if so I'm sorry.
I thought it left a lot to be desired in the scare department. there was a few parts, but most often than not, It was way too much suspense, no scare. This really gets annoying after a while. I also guessed the ending half way through, which isn't good for a movie that relies on a twisted ending:(

Gotta tell ya, I'd rather have a few more films that spend time building suspense rather than just trying to get a few cheap scare shocks in. I'm sick of the cliches like how they play the orchestra REAL loud when something (like a cat) suddenly jumps onscreen and scares the actor- that's just cheap to me, and there are so few real good "quality scares" these days. What Lies Beneath is the only film in years to actually have me gripping the armrest like I was gonna snap it off during one of the bathroom scenes. I swear, you could hear the collective hearts of everyone in the cinema thumping aloud during these scenes! More like this, please sir!
I also guessed the ending half way through, which isn't good for a movie that relies on a twisted ending:(
But did you guess the twist because it was plainly obvious and badly scipted, or because you had a "revelation" of sorts during the film and it all fell into place for you like finding the critical piece of a complex puzzle? This happened to me during the Sixth Sense, and when I realised the twist, the rest of the film was ruined for me. It's a pity too, because I was enjoying it up till that point, then suddenly the film seemed pointless. That's not a problem when you watch a film for the second or third time, but when you are watching for the first time, it ruins the whole experience of watching the magic unfold onscreen.
I don't want to know the twist ending until the end! I don't want to read it on the internet. I don't want a friend to unexpectedly tell me and ruin the experience. I don't want to even know there's a twist. I just want to pay my money, eat my popcorn and be entertained for 1 hour and 59 minutes. THEN bring on the twists! Shock me! Scare me! Tell me I've been sucked in totally for two hours! Give me the twist and tell me that's what I paid for. Thats what i love about films. Bring it on!
