termite,
Thanks for going to all that trouble and downloading the manual.
Now you can read and go around the same circles as I am doing.
I have seen this 'SplitTite/rejoin Title' but what the hell are they talking about?
Ok, 'Split' means exactly that, to divide, but what ??
'Title'? what Bleedy Title, the Title of the recorded program ? or parts of the recorded program?
My interpretation was that you could join 2 (or more?) programs together so they would run as one during playback or vice versa? I really hadnt looked at that too closely as I was trying to concentrate on the 'Hidding' infromation.
This is exactly the terminolgy/ meanings and explanations problems I have been referring to all along.
Most of the manual and most others are written by someone who presumes the reader/user is as well versed and familiar with the terminology and operation as they are.
Unfortunately, most including me are not, and like now, find ourselves lost trying to use the unit.
The old joke of 'How many still can't set the timer on their VCR?' seems to be now transferring to these.
I am happy with the LiteOn as such and I will persevere with it.
I was hoping that by having a HDD versin for its storage capacity, it would also allow a more editable function than just the DVD burner types.
This it certainly does but not quite what I had in mind.

The title would be the program you are ready to play/edit/dub.Got sound card probs with my PC at the moment and the vodka I've been drinking all afternoon is kicking in.
find a program to play once there see if there is an edit of the split/erase/merge.I belive this is the way to go it has to be.
will look at the manual again later,in cases like this experiment.

Yep looked at the manual again and the edit function is quite clear,in fact I reverse my criticism of a hum bug feature because with the split title you could group all the unwanted titles and make a whole new title just in case you might want some of that footage later rather than delete it for good.
So gordon my man Page 38 Heading Edit explains it all.
all the best....

Termite, firstly let me thank you for all of your valuable and much appreciated assitance.
You are correct regarding page 38.
It does contain all the information but there again, that was where I ran into interpretation problems.
Sunday nite I attacked the editing as per what I have learnt from you and JOK.
That bloody 'double click' effect the remote has,(Browser and Edit seem the worse) the 'find the relevant button to push while watching the screen', me pressing 'Copy' when I should have pressed 'Edit', not setting the correct 'space/volume/capacity for the DVD I wanted to record to and somehow I managed to delete/erase/remove/loose a 10 minute segment of the program, I had a wonderfull time.
I still have the original on tape.
Fortunately I have no near neighbors and my wife developes selective hearing when I start to get shall we say, vocal?
I sometimes wonder if my pigheadedness is an advantage not to let this thing beat me because after about 2 hours I was ready to see if it could fly.
I freely admit that the majority of my difficulties is down to me and I understand the manual cannot possibly cover every stuffup the user can devise but I still say they are written by those who think everyone else knows what they know and dont need to be told the basics.
I am a classic example of how wrong that premise is.
I will attack again very shortly as I find in many cases its best to do a total retreat (rout even) and to approach the problem after a good nights sleep.
Again,thanks for listening and guiding.
Gordon
