Hello,

I understood that LPG is very popular in Australia. Here in France it's
not so popular and I failed to get a response to the following question

could someone explain how a catalyst muffler can be damaged by LPG ?

I'm thinking about converting my car to LPG but I noticed that the few
collegues running LPG had to replace the catalyser at a time or
another, which is quite rare normaly.

Get rid of the catalytic convertor if you are running solely or in the
majority on LPG
it will gum up and you will lose power.
the only problem you will have is with the EPA and their versions of
emmission control devices, which they say is necessary with modern cars, but
they haven't done many studies with LPG

Yep, nothing a spanner, large screwdriver and a hammer wont fix.
Bit of bashing and the cat will be fine, apart from a hollow type sound from
the exhaust....

if you keep the engine tuned properly i can't see any obvious reason
why the cat would be poisoned.

if you run high exhaust temperatures or put lead or some other
substances into the exhaust you can poison the cat but a smooth
running LPG setup shouldn't do that, i don't think.
