FOR SALE
I have a beautiful 1970 Chevelle SS Prostreet / Showcar for sale. This is
a beautiful car that has was me many trophies, but is also worthy of the
strip. Though this car is powerful, it still hasn't been raced. I
estimate a 9 second 1/4 out of this car. I purchased this car from a
friend who built the car. This Chevelle started out as a perfect 1970
original 454 SS, olive green with black interior. Now it is a Burgundy
Wine exterior, pearl racing strips and black interior with custom
imbroidered '502' bucket seats. Under the hood is a professionally built
502 cid with aprox. 850 horsepower plus Nitros which has never been
sprayed. This was a frame up restoration/customization with no expense
spared. This Chevelle has over $70,000 dollars invested. I am selling
this car to build a circle track car. Follow this link to see pictures.
Thanks

Funny because I read the auction as "Buy now US45k", 70k is what the owner
claims to have spent on it.

At a starting of $25k to a buy now of $45k, that's not too bad for the
amount of work involved.

Classic muscle cars are valued strongly in the US just like here...
it's like someone laughing at SLR5000s or Falcon GTs going for
$30,000... it's been par for the course for quite a while.

It says $25,000USD bid, buy now $45,000USD!

Obviously grossly overpriced anyway.
I guess some idiot will by it, a "Noddy" no doubt :-)

I dont see how it wouls be worth 45 k and cost 70 to build , those 504
motors are 18k AU , an old holden worth maybe 5k and 5k for a decent
glide and some brakes.. where is the rest considering a good look at the
phots shows a definitte lack of care .

Genuine muscle cars are currently bringing incredibly ridiculous money in
the US at the moment.

Barret-Jackson is a major auction house for collectable cars over there, and
recent auctions saw some insane buying, such as $216,000 for a '70 Hemi
Cuda, $170,000 for a a '70 Hemi Charger R/T, $145,000 for a '69 COPO 427
Comaro and $126,000 for a '70 Boss 429 Mustang.

Even lesser "muscle" models are bringing totally outragous money, and to the
point where people are now willing to pay (what I think) is unrealistic
prices for "clone" vehicles, knowing full well that they're not buying the
genuine article.

Maybe the shows it wins are "stupidest car" and "biggest waste of money"?

Problem is, this bloke has ruined the value of it so to a collector,
wouldn't be buying. I'd be surprised if it would fetch US$45K even if
it was in original condition. Nice car stock though.

I never looked at the link, but provided the car hasn't been completely
cannibalised it will still be of considerable value. Such cars are pretty
niche, and it's "worth" is what someone is prepared to pay for it.

I'm currently trying to sell a Model T Ford truck hotrod with a blown big
block in it for a friend. It's a pretty distinctive vehicle and goes
*incredibly* hard (I makes a genuine 800hp), but he wants 50 large for it
and at that money I think it's a tad over priced.

Still, what I think isn't important, as I'm not interested in it.

Fair point. He's resprayed it in a completely different colour and
done other shit, a collectoer would want to get it much cheaper than
the going rates for a stock resto.

Many peope i've spoken too over the years will build/resto a car then
get bored of it and start again, its seems that a big part of the
enjoyment is actually doing the work rather than actually driving the
thing so asking big bucks for them narrows the market to punters
essentially outside the hobby to a certain degree.

Agreed.

Such "damage" always lessens the value of a car in the eyes of a concourse
restorer, but it will still have a value just the same. Depending on the
car, that value could be pretty high.

I mean, I'd still pay big money for an original Boss 429 Mustang that had
been "street machined".

Kinda.

There's still that segment of the market that loves this kinda stuff, but
don't have the skills/tools/time to do the work themselves. In these cases,
buying someone else's project is almost always a better way to go.
