<center><B>SYNOPSIS: </b></center>
Directed by John Hughes and starring Matthew Broderick as Ferris Bueller, this is a story of a senior high student who decides to take the day off from school with a couple of friends to have a bit of fun and make the best of it. This includes borrowing a 61 Ferrari owned by his best friends father.
Ferris is a bit of a pro at taking days off as this is his ninth for the year so he has all kinds of ideas and tricks to assist him.
Ferris has to be good though, as his suspicious Principal, Ed Rooney is out to get him and then there's his sister Jeanie who's very annoyed at him getting away with so much.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off a well written story of what these three teenagers get up to during this day off and is guaranteed to provide plenty of fun along the way.
<center><b>AUDIO/VISUAL</b></center>
Audio
Ferris Bueller's Day Off has a few audio options which are, English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Italian, German, Spanish and French Dolby Digital 2.0 (surround) tracks.
This isn't an aggressive 5.1 mix and the audio seemed to be mostly coming from the front three speakers. The sub doesn't really make an impact and the rears only provide some very quiet and infrequent rear noises. Music and crowd scenes such as the "Twist and Shout" section of the movie offer some subtle sounds, but that's about it. There was good use of music in the movie which really assisted the fun feel to this feature.
Speech is fine though as it's always easy to understand and shows no signs of problems with sync etc.
Video
The movie has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 widescreen and is 16:9 enhanced.
I think the most noticeable thing to me about this video transfer was that the colours were slightly dull during the entire movie. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it was pretty obvious and flesh tones were slightly muted as a result.
The picture was pretty sharp, offered a lot of detail and although there were no major flaws, there are the occasional specs on screen but these aren't that distracting to be honest.
The layer change at the 63.25 minute mark, was just a slight pause as the scene cuts from a house exterior to Jennifer Grey getting out of a car.
I thought it was still a pretty decent transfer for a movie of this age and is pretty good overall.

Director Commentary -
This feature commentary by director John Hughes is highly enjoyable to listen to.
There never seems to be a dull moment as he talks about the shooting of the movie, the characters, actors, locations, shooting techniques and so much more.
He gives plenty of info regarding the technical side of things but also regales you with stories of things that happened during the shooting of the movie.
This is a great feature commentary that I highly recommend to any fan of the film.
It's unfortunately the only extra feature.
<center><B>OVERALL</b></center>
At last!
This John Hughes classic has finally made its way to region 4 DVD.
Mathew Broderick is excellent in this role and the way he portrays his character really does turn up the enjoyment factor of this movie a notch or two.
The audio and video quality of this DVD aren't spectacular, but they do hold up well for a movie of its age and I'm sure they're still good enough to keep most fans happy.
The extra features are very light on, but thankfully there is an audio commentary and a pretty informative one at that.
Renting this film is highly recommended if you haven't seen it before and I don't think there's any need to tell fans to go buy it as I'm sure a lot of you already have it on pre-order or intent to grab it soon.
This movie is a classic!
Ferris Bueller's Day off will be available on April 12, 2002.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" ALIGN="center" BORDER="1">
