What to do? iSim refuse to cooperate.

I received an SMS
"19721973 Hiya! Welcome 2 ur Truetone Subscription. Ur tone will arrive
soon. It will charge $3/day Send STOP to 19721973 2 UnSubscribe. 4 Help
1300767306" (sic)

And the bill hit my account at the same time.

27/10/2005 8:08:00 PM 614xxxxxxxxx 777719721973 0 $3.00

The 1300 number given is a "fully automated service". No humans.
The isim support person, who refused to give a full name, would only
refer me to the 1300767306 number, and told me they are Solmobile.

Is this a scam? Computer foul-up?
I know that people actually do pay $3 for a ringtone, but would
anybody really sign for a 43/day subscription? It can't be honest.

No, nobody had access to my handset. And its an old one with
no downloadable anything. But it does keep a record out outgoing call
and texts.

What can I do?

Contact the Telecommunications Ombudsman and hopefully they will assist.

New info: Solmobile is also known as mobilemessenger.
I called their office, and foolishly gave my mobile number, in an
attempt to resovle it. They pass the buck to the "content provider",
but will not tell me the name, just a 1300 number to leave a message.

A few minutes later, got this SMS:

"Optus Message Failed - Insufficient Balance"

The buggars had tried to hit me again. So much for trying the nice way.

Mike,

You have already made reasonable attempts to solve the issue with iSIM and
the ringtone service provider, without success. It is therefore important
that you make immediate contact with the TIO (http://www.tio.com.au) and
advise them that you have made those reasonable attempts without success.
Best to call the TIO first as often they can solve these issues over the
phone (will generally give you a direct number to higher-level complaints
within your telco). At the end of the day, the TIO has the legislative power
to order telcos to undertake certain actions. No, do not write to iSIM, they
will not do anything.

If that mob have a 190 service as well, refer the issue to:

I have been reading some of the notes re sms rip off and the automated number or 1300 767 306, My son has experienced these problems with three bills over 400.00 and more to come. Optus seem to wash their hands of it all and although he has tried on several occasions to cancel the subscription it seems to no avail. Is there anyone out there that has had any success with a cancellation or even a refund from these theiving crooks????? Any assistance anyone can give me would be appreciated as I have a teenager who is on an apprentice wage who is very depressed about this.

Yes, I had success. you must have missed some of the messages in this
thread. I see you are using the "phorums" gateway - try google groups
instead.
Anyway, call the TIO (ombusdman) and they will tell you how to sort
it. Don't deal with the crooks. Optus should refund you when you go via
the TIO. Calling optus support directly is a waste of time.
Tell your son he is one of many, and should get his money back,
though not the wasted time. Get his story straight, BTW.

If he is under 18yo and living in Sydney, he might be tempted to
consider extra-legal means, but I couldn't possibly advocate that.
