What to do? iSim refuse to cooperate.

I received an SMS
"19721973 Hiya! Welcome 2 ur Truetone Subscription. Ur tone will arrive
soon. It will charge $3/day Send STOP to 19721973 2 UnSubscribe. 4 Help
1300767306" (sic)

And the bill hit my account at the same time.

27/10/2005 8:08:00 PM 614xxxxxxxxx 777719721973 0 $3.00

The 1300 number given is a "fully automated service". No humans.
The isim support person, who refused to give a full name, would only
refer me to the 1300767306 number, and told me they are Solmobile.

Is this a scam? Computer foul-up?
I know that people actually do pay $3 for a ringtone, but would
anybody really sign for a $3/day subscription? It can't be honest.
Any evidence that this is a legit service? Do they advertise?

No, nobody had access to my handset. And its an old one with
no downloadable anything. But it does keep a record out outgoing call
and texts.

What can I do?

It was most likely from a website that allows people to sign an Australian
number up to the premium service with no proof of identity. I had similar
problems a couple months back; search the archives if you're interested.

His contract is between him and ISIM. He has no contract with Solmobile.
ISIM are the party debiting his account.

It is purely an ISIM issue as far as his issue is concerned. If ISIM want to
take it up with Solmobile that's their problem.

It seems to be a matter of opinion about whether I need to,
or should have to, persue ISim(=simplus), or the thieving
scum that run the premium SMS "services".

However, the TIO would appear to side with Kwyjibo.
According to the TIO, it _IS_ up to Simplus to resolve this. They
should refund me, and ensure it cannot happen again.
Simplus is the company that operates the Isim brand, and is a subsidiary
of Optus.
I have spoken to their "Customer Relations", and expect a reply soon.

The TISSC currently only deal with advertising and content problems,
not billing, but they are aware of this problem, and may be able to deal
with it in future. They are accepting public submissions -

Meanwhile, their advice is to not put your mobile number on the web, and
be very careful who give it to. i.e. just like your e-mail address and
the spammers.

and to complicate matters even further, Simplus will (probably) tell you they
are entirely separate from iSim. One is a pre-paid subsidiary and the other is
the post-paid subsidiary, but they are apparently entirely separate.

Once, in frustration at the delays in trying to get an iSim issue resolved via
email, I tried calling Simplus as they had a customer service phone#. Told
politely to bugger off as they were entirely separate. YMMV.

Close. There is only one company, but two brands. The call centre staff
can access some info from isim accounts, but cannot change anything.
The isim brand uses separate support staff, via e-mail and online.

Now that I've had to go via the TIO, Simplus is forced to deal with
my complaint. They effectively force you to go through the TIO before
you can speak to Customer Relations.

Yeah, they told me the support was separate, and they had no authority
on the isim accounts.

More the fool them, the moment you get a job number off the TIO the
carrier is charged a fee. Then if it is not resolved within the
specified time they start paying $$$$
